Cabinet for Dress Tales

Research for a portable exhibition unit

The Cabinet for Dress Tales is a portable exhibition unit designed to host small-scale, itinerant exhibitions centred on dress and clothing.

Designed in 2021 by architect Haris Biskos, based on a concept and research by Clotheslines, the unit represents the first stage of a broader programme focused on collecting and presenting stories of dress materiality beyond the conventional spatial boundaries of museums and galleries. It aims to reach specific communities and contexts through adaptable formats of display.

Functionally, the unit meets all required specifications for the temporary storage and exhibition of historical garments. It is durable, lightweight, and easy to assemble. It can accommodate a variety of contents depending on the exhibition design: a dressed mannequin, garments of different scales, photographs, sketches, objects, and audiovisual material.
